Safari for Windows

As I’m sure most people are aware, Apple has released its Safari web browser on windows as a beta version.  I downloaded this a few days ago just to have a quick look at how it fares up and to see if it will knock the gains firefox has made.  Here is what I think of it so far.

safari

I’ve always liked the way safari renders web pages, it always looks nice and smooth and a lot better than any of its rivals.  That said Apple claims that this browser is two times faster than any other browser on windows, which would be great, but unfortunately for me that isn’t the case.  Firefox by far is the fastest on my system and safari is unbearable slow but its still in beta so hopefully that will change.  Not that I will switch, firefox has loads of good add ins that I use regularly, including the web developer tool bar and firebug to name a couple.

Safari also lacks the options to customise it which is also a shame, its a bit boring looking at that grey all the time.  Hopefully with the full release things will get a little better, but having two great standards based browsers can’t be all that bad.
