Ricoh R6

In the past few weeks I have purchased a new digital camera, to replace my ageing brick of a camera.  Although my older camera, the Fuji s5000, has a few more advanced features, it is massive and not really that easy to carry around for everyday snapshots.  I decided to get the Ricoh R6 as it had a few features that caught my eye and is also minuscule. So what’s the verdict?

I chose this camera for a number of reasons, firstly it has a 28mm(35mm equiv) lens that was the main feature that sold it to me.  My old camera just wasn’t wide enough, making it hard to get everything in the frame when trying wide angle shots which was a real pain in the arse.  Secondly it is only about 2cm thick so I can take it anywhere with me, like to the pub ! There I can take a few snapshots of a night out and about and not have to worry about leaving it somewhere, just jam it in the pocket.  Next reason? Macro.  The camera has a 1cm focusing distance enabling a few macro shots and making the camera a pretty good all rounder.

The camera does have a few drawbacks that I noticed.  It does seem to underexpose a little with most shots, easy to rectify but a little annoying.  It also has a pretty powerful flash, good when a little further away, but not so good when you are across the table from someone.  All in all I’m happy with it and it was bought as a snapshot, point and shoot camera so I don’t expect too much.
