Just bought a Mac Mini

I just purchased a nearly new Mac Mini G4 computer.  When I say nearly new I mean I bought it ex-display for a ridiculously cheap price, AU$350 to be exact.  I have wanted one for a while but I couldn’t justify buying one, not because they are in any way expensive but those funds would be better spent else where(and I already have a perfectly good, fully functional computer). It was all but a little yearning in the back of my mind until fate decided to deal a hand of “too good a price to miss”, when I spotted it.

As mentioned I have wanted to buy a Mac Mini for a little while now, for a handful of reasons.  I have been using PC’s for years now but the first computer that I ever used was a Mac and I have used them many times since.  When I first started to use a Mac there was no such thing as the internet, at least not in the form it is now, they where pretty basic and then I met Windows 3.1, which to me, was easier to use and so began the legacy of Windows use. Macs I’ve always had problems with, whether it be buggering up disks (and not being able to get them out) to the incompatibility with the wider, more dominant PC’s.

Operating Systems

Recently I have become a little more disillusioned with Windows, you soon start to know when a reinstall is required and that is a pain in the arse. Never mind the fact that the new version of Windows, Vista, is a resource hog and has four or five different versions, its just not what I want.  A dilemma occurred, should I install Linux or should I just go the Mac route with OS X? Linux does not have any commercial software and I use Illustrator and Photoshop a lot so that was out the window, that only left having a rethink about the Mac.

Whats the cheapest way to try out a Mac? put a hacked version of OS X on my laptop....... No to much trouble and I don’t have that much time on my hands, it has to be try a Mac Mini !

I’ve been checking out OS X and I truly believe that it is a few years ahead of the competition and Apple always does it with style.  The new Macs are beautiful, both the hardware and software so I am going to try out the Mac for a while and see how it works for me, I will probably dabble with Windows from time to time but hopefully I can settle with the Mac.

The Mac Mini is tiny and really really quiet, it is beautiful and an inspirational little machine, looking at it you cant believe they packed a fully functional computer in there, its not that much bigger than a CD !
